Mr R L (Bobby) Jones died on 26 June,2009 aged 79. A pupil of Charterhouse School, Bobby won a scholarship to Peterhouse, Cambridge, and after several years teaching in Uganda came to Birkenhead in 1966. He taught History and General Studies throughout his time at the school until his retirement in 1990, while also involving himself in cricket and hockey. For many years he ran the series of talks in morning assembly and he was an enthusiastic editor of the Birkonian. His generous spirit and warm-hearted nature endeared him to his colleagues, who elected him regularly to the post of Secretary to the Common Room.
