In October 1999, Alan Morris and Norm Rimmer and their respective wives met up in Melbourne, where Norm kindly hosted a day's sightseeing, including a trip to Philip Island.

The following evening, some expat Birkonians, all members of the Birks Association of Australia, got together in an Italian restaurant in Beaumaris, a few miles from Melbourne.
